1. rest: to stop working or stop being active, and sit down or lie down so that you become less tired

例:

If you're tired, we'll stop and rest for a while. (你累了,我們就停下歇會。)

The doctor told me to take some time off work and try to rest. (醫(yī)生讓我請一段時間的假休息一下。)

2. take a rest: to rest for a short time in the middle of a tiring activity

備注:''take a rest''常見于美式英語中,英式英語中常作''have a rest''。

例:

Don't stay in front of the computer for long periods of time—take a rest occasionally. (用電腦別用太久,時不時也要休息一下。)

5. put your feet up: to rest for a short time after a tiring activity, especially by sitting with your feet resting on something
