(1)be brave
enough to do something:
例:
None of the other people were brave enough
to stand up to him.(其他人根本不敢站到他面前。)
Maybe if you were brave enough to ask her
out, she'd go to a movie with you.(你要是敢約她,說不定她真和你去看電影了。)
(2)have the
courage to do something:
例:

there was something wrong in the business.(他不敢告訴尼古拉生意上有問題。)
?
2. dare to: to be brave
enough to do something that is risky or that you are afraid to do - used
especially in questions, negatives, and sentences beginning with ''if'' :表示“敢做某事”,常用在疑問句、否定句、或if開頭的條件句
例:
''I'll tell Dad.''? ''You wouldn't dare to!''(-我要告訴爸爸。?
My sister used to steal things from stores,
but I would never dare to.(我姐姐在店里偷過東西,我可不敢偷。)

that document.
Dare we take this decision without
consulting the Prime Minister?
?
3. have the guts to do something:
have the courage to do something
I know he made a mistake, but at least he
had the guts to admit it!
Sarah is the only one who has the guts to
speak her mind.(莎拉是唯一一個敢直言不諱的人。)
?
4. have the nerve to do something:
to be calm and confident enough to do something that is frightening or
dangerous
例:
Not many people have the nerve to stand up
and speak in front of a large audience.(敢在這么多人面前演說的人可沒幾個。)

has the nerve to criticize my cooking.(她什么活都讓我干,還膽敢批評我的廚藝。)
I can't believe he has the nerve to show up
at the party after what he said about Janet.(他之前那樣說Janet,現(xiàn)在竟然還有臉來參加派對。)
備注:在有的語境下,''have the nerve to do something''可以翻譯成“還真有臉做某事”,如后兩個例子。
?
5. find/ get up/ pluck up/ summon up the courage to do something: to force yourself to be brave and do something that you are afraid
of doing, after thinking about it for a long time:表示“經(jīng)過長時間的思考,終于鼓起勇氣
”
例:

enough courage to ask her to marry him.(戴維愛著朱莉,但是他始終鼓不起勇氣向她求婚。)

my parents that I was going to go and live in Canada.(我考慮了很久,終于鼓起勇氣告訴爸媽我要去加拿大定居了。)
