接著 上一講 ,繼續(xù)說(shuō)說(shuō)“店鋪的那些事兒”。

(一)專門賣某類物品的店

1. bakery : a shop that sells bread, cakes and pastries, especially one that also makes them 面包店

備注:英式英語(yǔ)中常用 '' baker's '' 。

例:

She runs a French bakery in North London. (她在倫敦北部經(jīng)營(yíng)一家法國(guó)面包店。)

2. butcher : a shop that sells meat 肉店

備注: ''butcher'' 常見(jiàn)于英式英語(yǔ)中,美式英語(yǔ)中常用 '' butcher shop ''

例:

Many small independent butchers are closing down. (很多個(gè)體小肉鋪都關(guān)門歇業(yè)了。)

3. delicatessen : a store where you can buy foods (such as meats, cheese, salads, and sandwiches) that are already cooked or prepared 熟食店

備注: ''delicatessen'' 還可以簡(jiǎn)稱為 '' deli '' 。

例:

We bought sandwiches and drinks at the deli. (我們?cè)谑焓车曩I了三明治和飲料。)

I bought those sausages from the deli to make a perfect pizza tonight. (我在那家熟食店買了香腸,準(zhǔn)備晚上做披薩。)

There's an Italian deli here and their homemade ravioli is delicious. (附近有家意大利熟食店,他們家的手工水餃很好吃。)

4. off licence : a shop that sells beer, wine, and other alcoholic drinks that you drink at home 賣酒的店

備注: ''off licence'' 還可以簡(jiǎn)稱為 ''offie'' 。 ''off licence'' 是英式英語(yǔ),美式英語(yǔ)中用 '' liquor store '' 。

''liquor store'' ''bar'' (酒吧)并不相同。

My fiancé bought my dad a bottle of spirits form the off licence on 5 th Avenue. (我未婚夫在第五街那賣酒的店買了一瓶烈酒給我爸。)

5. chemist : a shop that sells medicines, beauty and baby products etc. 藥店(但也賣藥品之外的生活用品)

備注: chemist=chemist's , ''chemist'' 常見(jiàn)于英式英語(yǔ)中,美式英語(yǔ)中常用 '' drugstore '' 。

6. pharmacy : a shop or part of a shop where medicines are made and sold 藥店或店鋪里的藥品柜臺(tái)

7. hardware store : a shop that sells equipment and tools that are made of metal or you can use in your home or garden 五金店

備注: ''hardware store'' 常見(jiàn)于美式英語(yǔ)中,英式英語(yǔ)中常用 '' hardware shop '' 。

8. garden center : a place that sells a wide range of plants, seeds, and things for your garden 園藝店

備注: ''garden center'' 常見(jiàn)于英式英語(yǔ)中,美式英語(yǔ)中常用 '' nursery ''

例:

Your local garden center can advise you on which plants to grow. (你去附近的園藝店問(wèn)問(wèn)種什么好。)

9. newsagent's/newsagent : a shop that sells newspapers and magazines, and often paperback books 書(shū)報(bào)店

備注: ''newsagent'' 常見(jiàn)于英式英語(yǔ)中,美式英語(yǔ)中常用 '' book store '' 。

例:

Kate waited for him outside the newsagent. (凱特在書(shū)店門口等過(guò)他。)

(二)攤子

10. stall : a small open counter or partially enclosed structure where things are displayed for sale 攤位

備注: ''stall'' 常見(jiàn)于英式英語(yǔ)中,美式英語(yǔ)中常用 '' stand '' 。

例:

food stalls (食品攤)

Justin used to mind the stall while his father was in the cafe, drinking. (老爸去咖啡店喝咖啡的時(shí)候,就由賈斯丁來(lái)看著攤子。)

The trouble is, you can't really try the clothes on at a market stall. (問(wèn)題是,在集市攤子上買衣服不能當(dāng)場(chǎng)試穿。)

She set up a stall selling jewelry in the marketplace. (她在市場(chǎng)上支起一個(gè)攤賣珠寶。)

11. newsstand : a small structure on a street, that sells newspapers and magazines 報(bào)刊亭

備注: ''newsstand'' 常見(jiàn)于美式英語(yǔ)中,英式英語(yǔ)中常用 '' book stall '' 。

例:

He bought a paper at a newsstand near the entrance to the park. (他在公園入口處附近的報(bào)刊亭買了份報(bào)紙。)

12. concession stand : a small shop where things are sold in a public place (such as a sports stadium) (體育場(chǎng)等公共場(chǎng)所的)小賣鋪

例:

We got hot dogs at the concession stand. (我們?cè)谛≠u鋪買的熱狗。)

He runs a concession stand that sells hot dogs and hamburgers at the ballpark. (他在棒球場(chǎng)場(chǎng)館內(nèi)開(kāi)了家賣熱狗和漢堡的小賣鋪。)
