上一講 主要介紹了幾個(gè)不同種類的“睡眠”的小詞，如“打瞌睡”、“午休”等等。緊接上一講，我們來看看“入眠”在英語中怎么表達(dá)。

表示“入眠”，常用：
① go to sleep:
例：
She lay down on the couch and went right to
sleep.（她躺在沙發(fā)上，馬上睡著。）
Tell the kids it's time to go to sleep (=
go to bed).（告訴孩子們，該上床睡覺啦?。?/span>
After the party, I just wanted to go to
sleep.（派對(duì)結(jié)束后，我只想趕緊去睡覺。）

② fall asleep:
例：
Grandpa fell asleep watching TV.（爺爺看電視，看著看著就睡著了。）
I woke up and I couldn't fall back asleep.（我醒了就再也睡不著了。）
One in seven road accidents is caused by
drivers falling asleep at the wheel (= falling asleep while driving ) .（公路交通意外有1/7是由于駕駛員行駛過程中打瞌睡造成的。）

③ get to sleep:
例：
It took me almost an hour to get to sleep
last night.（昨晚我躺床上差不多一個(gè)小時(shí)后才睡著。）
I woke up in the middle of the night, but I
eventually got back to sleep.（我半夜醒來，但后來又睡著了。）

④ drop off (to sleep):
例：
The baby tends to drop off after he eats.（嬰兒吃完就想睡。）
She lay down and dropped off to sleep.（她躺下就睡著。）
Do you fall asleep as soon as your head
hits the pillow, or do you toss and turn for hours before dropping off?（你是一沾枕頭就睡著呢？還是在床上翻來覆去好久才睡著？）

⑤ out:
例：
He was out as soon as his head hit the
pillow.（他一沾枕頭就睡著了。）
看看《老友記》S01E24的例子：
情境：Ross向朋友們展示剛出生的兒子的照片，這些照片大同小異，全是兒子“將睡不睡”的狀態(tài)?？纯?/span>Ross怎么說。
Ross: (full of love) Oh, here's little Ben
falling asleep. A little bit later. Is he going to sleep? Is he going to sleep?
Is he gonna...(excited)Yep. Out like a light.
呵，這是小Ben睡著的照片……不是，等一下……他要睡了嗎？……他要睡了嗎？……哈！一下子就睡著了！

⑥ put somebody to sleep:
這個(gè)詞組有兩個(gè)意思：
A. to get
someone ready to sleep for the night
例：
Did you put the kids to sleep?= Did you put
the kids to bed?（孩子們洗漱停當(dāng)了嗎？你把他們弄上床了嗎？）
B. to make
someone fall asleep from boredom無聊得讓人昏昏欲睡
例：
The movie practically put me to sleep.（這個(gè)電影幾乎讓我昏昏欲睡。）
Her lectures used to put him to sleep.（她的演講常讓他昏昏欲睡。）

⑦ pass out: to?fall?asleep?or?become?unconscious
例：
They?both?passed?out?in?front?of?the?TV.（他們倆都看電視看到睡著。）
He?drank?until?he?passed?out.（他一直喝到人事不知。）
I?felt?like?I?was?going?to?pass?out?from?exhaustion.（我覺得我快累得睡著了。）
Someone passed out on the floor.（有人昏迷躺在地板上。）
