1. realize :

例:

Tim only realized his mistake the next day. (蒂姆第二天才意識到自己錯了。)

Without realizing it, we had gone the wrong way. (我們不明所以,走錯了路。)

Oh, is that your chair? Sorry, I didn't realize. (喔,那是你的座位?抱歉,我剛剛沒注意到。)

She woke up and realized that there was someone moving around downstairs. (她醒過來,意識到有人在樓下轉悠。)

2. occur to : if something occurs to you, you suddenly realize that it might be true, especially when you had been thinking something completely different before

例:

I washed it in hot water—it never occurred to me to check the label. (我用熱水洗了。我就是沒想到要先看一下標簽上的洗滌說明。)

It suddenly occurred to me that maybe she was lying. (我突然意識到,她可能是在撒謊。)

3. become aware : to slowly realize something, especially over a fairly long period of time

例:

become aware of

I was slowly becoming aware of how much Melissa was suffering. (我漸漸察覺到瑪麗莎一直在遭罪。)

become aware that

He became aware that the man sitting opposite was staring at him intently. (他注意到坐在他對面的那個人全神貫注地盯著他。)

4. dawn on : if a fact dawns on you, you slowly start to realize it, especially when you should have realized it before

例:

The awful truth only dawned on me later. (我后來才意識到這個可怕的真相。)

it dawns on somebody that

It slowly dawned on her that they were all making fun of her. (她慢慢意識到,他們都在耍她。)

it dawns on somebody how/why etc.

It didn't dawn on me how seriously injured I was until I got to the hospital. (到醫(yī)院的時候我才意識到自己受了多重的傷。)

5. strike : if an idea or thought strikes you, you suddenly realize something

例:

it strikes somebody (that)

It struck her one day, when she was walking home from school, that she hadn't thought about her weight for over a month. (有一天放學回家的路上,她突然意識到,自己有一個多月沒有關注體重了。)

It just struck me—you must have been in the same class as my brother. (我突然意識到,你肯定和我哥哥在一個班。)

6. it clicked : say this when you suddenly realize something that makes a subject or situation easy to understand

備注: "it clicked" 常用于口語中。

例:

Then it clicked. The man at the station must have been her brother! (對了!車站那人肯定是她哥哥?。?

it clicked what/how/where etc.

Finally it clicked what all the fuss had been about. (我最后才明白個所以然來。)

7. bring something home to : to make someone realize how serious, difficult, or dangerous something is

例:

This is the last place you would expect there to be a murder. It just brings it home to you that this kind of thing can happen anywhere. (這個地方怎么都不可能發(fā)生謀殺案。你會覺得這種事可能發(fā)生在任何其他地方,而非此地。)
