1. within walking/driving etc. distance : if a place is within walking distance, it is not far away, and you can walk there easily

例:

There are several good restaurants within walking distance. (離這兒不遠(yuǎn)處有幾家很好吃的餐館,從這兒走路過(guò)去就能到。)

within walking/driving etc. distance of

Dr White lived within walking distance of the University. (懷特醫(yī)生住在離這個(gè)大學(xué)不遠(yuǎn)處,從這個(gè)大學(xué)出發(fā)走路就能到。)

There are plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. (這家酒店周邊有很多酒吧和餐館。)

The job was not within driving distance of my home. (單位離我家不是非常近。)

within easy walking/driving etc. distance (of something)

The park is within easy walk distance. (公園很近,走路就能到。)

Fortunately the house that we were renting was within easy driving distance of the shops. (還好,我們租的房子離這些店很近。)

補(bǔ)充:常用的還有 ''within striking distance'', ''within spitting distance'' 等。

within striking distance: close enough to reach a place easily; very close to achieving something

例:

By now, they were within striking distance of the shore. (現(xiàn)在,他們到了離海邊很近的地方。)

The French team are within striking distance of the world record. (法國(guó)隊(duì)差點(diǎn)就破了世界紀(jì)錄。)

within spitting distance: very close to someone or something

備注: ''within spitting distance'' 常用于口語(yǔ)中。

例:

The ball passed within spitting distance of the goal. (球差一點(diǎn)就進(jìn)了。)

2. within reach : near enough to a town or place for you to get there without too much difficulty; within the distance that you can stretch out your arm to touch something

例:

Keep a glass of water within reach. (在手邊放一杯水。)

within reach of

It was just lucky that we were within reach of a hospital. (我們離醫(yī)院這么近,真是萬(wàn)幸。)

within easy reach (=near enough to get to easily)

Around Salzburg there are literally dozens of exciting places to visit - all within easy reach. (薩爾斯堡周邊有很多好地方可以去,并且都離薩爾斯堡很近。)

The beach is within easy reach of the hotel. (這家酒店離海邊很近。)

3. convenient/handy for something : if your home, office etc is convenient for or handy for a particular place, that place is near it and easy to reach

備注: ''convenient/handy for something'' 常用于英式英語(yǔ)中,美式英語(yǔ)中常作 ''convenient to something'' 。

例:

The bus stop around the corner is probably the most convenient. (轉(zhuǎn)角那個(gè)車(chē)站可能是最近的車(chē)站了。)

restaurants convenient for shops and theaters (離商店和劇場(chǎng)很近的餐館)

The place where we live now is very convenient for the school - it's only a couple of minutes on foot. (我們現(xiàn)在住的地方離學(xué)校很近,走路只要幾分鐘就到了。)

The house was in Drury Lane, very handy for the theater. (這個(gè)房子就在居瑞巷,離劇場(chǎng)很近。)

My husband works in London so we're looking for a house that's handy for the station. (我老公在倫敦上班,所以我們想找個(gè)離車(chē)站近的房子住。)

We found an apartment convenient to campus and public transportation. (我們找了個(gè)離學(xué)校和車(chē)站都很近的公寓。)

4. in your own backyard : near the place where you live - use this especially when talking about something that you do not want there

備注: ''in your own backyard'' 常用于非正式的場(chǎng)合。

例:

Most people want the new airport so long as it isn't in their own backyard. (只要新機(jī)場(chǎng)不建在自己家附近,大部分人都沒(méi)話說(shuō)了,都希望新機(jī)場(chǎng)能建起來(lái)。)
