1. vaguely remember : if you vaguely remember something, you can remember it slightly but not all the details are clear

例:

She still vaguely remembered her father, a distant figure who was barely ever there.

vaguely remember that

I do vaguely remember, now that Kerry mentions it, that Pete was at the party.

vaguely remember what/how/who etc

Bob, who'd been a vet in the army, vaguely remembered how to use a tourniquet.

vaguely remember doing something

He vaguely remembered meeting her in a club at night.

?

2. have a hazy/vague recollection : to be able to remember that something happened but not be able to remember the details clearly, especially because you did not notice the details at the time

例:

I do sort of remember meeting him, but I have only a hazy recollection.

have a hazy/vague recollection of

Davis claims he has only a vague recollection of the rape.

have a hazy/vague recollection of doing something

The next day she had a hazy recollection of getting drunk and dancing in a fountain.

Ted: And that's all I remember, except for a few hazy memories.

?

3. ring a bell : if something, especially a name, rings a bell, you remember that you have seen or heard it before but you are now not sure of the details

例:

The name rings a bell, but I can't place it at the moment.

ring a bell with

"Gentle Ben's Brewing Company" will ring a bell with anyone who has lived in Arizona.

1. have a bad/terrible/awful etc memory : to not be good at remembering facts or information

例:

I'm sorry for forgetting to phone her - I have a terrible memory.

have a bad/terrible/awful etc memory for

I have a bad memory for names.

?

2. forgetful : someone who is forgetful often forgets things, especially things they have to do

例:

My grandfather's getting so forgetful - I have to remind him to take his medication.

She was easily distracted and forgetful at school.

?

3. absent-minded : someone who is absent-minded often forgets things because they are thinking about other things

例:

He's a brilliant scientist but hopelessly absent-minded.

?

4. have a memory like a sieve : to not be able to remember facts or information, even for a short time

備注: ''have a memory like a sieve'' 常用于英式英語中非正式的場合。

You'd better remind him about the party - he's got a memory like a sieve!
