(一)明顯

1. (right) under somebody's nose : 在某人眼皮底下犯案;很明顯

例:

The drugs were smuggled in right under the noses of the security guards. (他們在保安眼皮底下把毒品帶進來。)

The key was right under my nose all the time. (鑰匙原來一直在我面前,我居然沒看見。)

The answer was right under our noses the whole time. (答案原來一直就擺在我們面前,這么明顯我們都沒發(fā)現(xiàn)。)

2. as plain as the nose on your face : very clear or obvious

備注:這是較口語化的用法。

例:

The solution is as plain as the nose on your face. (解決方法再明顯不過了。)

(二) 傲慢

1. turn your nose up (at something) : to refuse to accept something because you do not think it is good enough for you 不屑一顧

例:

I offered the cat some food, but it turned up its nose and walked away. (我拿了點東西給小貓吃,但它不屑一顧走開了。)

My children turn their noses up at home cooking. (孩子們對家常菜不屑一顧。)

They turned up their noses at our offer. (他們拒絕了我們的邀請。)

He turned up his nose at a job washing dishes. (他對洗碗的工作不屑一顧。)

2. with your nose in the air : behaving as if you are more important than other people and not talking to them

例:

She just walked past with her nose in the air. (她傲慢地走過。)

She walks around with her nose in the air like she's some big shot. (她傲慢地走來走去,好像自己是什么大人物。)

3. thumb your nose at : to show very clearly that you do not like or care about (something)

例:

She thumbed her nose at my suggestions. (她對我的建議嗤之以鼻。)

She thumbed her nose at the rules. (她根本不把紀律放在眼里。)

a chance to thumb his nose at the college authorities (一個跟學校領(lǐng)導叫板的機會)

4. look down your nose at : to think of or treat (someone or something) as unimportant or not worthy of respect

例:

She looked down her nose at her neighbors. (她看不起她的鄰居。)

(三) 管閑事、少管閑事、不關(guān)我的事

1. stick/poke your nose into something : to become involved in something that does not concern you, in a way that annoys people 管別人閑事

例:

She always has to stick her nose into matters that do not concern her. (不關(guān)她的事,她總要管。)

He's always been poking his nose into other people's business. (他總管別人閑事。)

2. keep your nose out (of something) : to avoid becoming involved in something that does not concern you 別管別人閑事

備注:它與 ''stick/poke your nose into something'' 意思正好相反。

例:

I wish he'd keep his nose out of my business! (但愿他別管我的事?。?

It's not your problem, so keep his nose out of it. (這不是你的錯,所以你別管。)

3. no skin off my nose : say this when you do not care what someone else does because it does not affect you in any way 不關(guān)我的事

例:

Go if you like - it's no skin off my nose. (你想走就走吧。反正也不關(guān)我事。)

If my sister wants to throw her money away, then fine. It's no skin off my nose. (我姐要是想撒錢,行啊,反正不關(guān)我事。)

If she doesn't want me to help, it's no skin off my nose. (如果她不要我?guī)兔?,那也無所謂啊。)
